A little over two years after a helicopter crash claimed the lives of Kobe and Gianna (Gigi) Bryant, Vanessa Bryant has teamed up with Nike to create apparel that commemorates her late husband and daughter.

On the morning of Jan. 26, 2020, a helicopter carrying Kobe and Gianna crashed in the hills of California, killing all passengers on board. Since then, the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to “creating positive impact for underserved athletes and boys and girls in sports,” was formed. With this latest partnership with Nike, fans will be able to purchase Kobe and Gigi Nike products while contributing to the Foundation, where 100% of the proceeds will be donated, according to a news story shared on Revolt.

The first release will be the Kobe 6 Protro Mambacita Sweet 16, which will drop this year, the year Gigi would have celebrated her 16th birthday. In addition to the apparel, Vanessa also announced that she and the brand will develop a basketball center in Southern California for young athletes. “I am also grateful that Nike and I will work together to establish a youth basketball center in Southern California that will share the Mamba Mentality with youth athletes for generations to come,” Vanessa shared in an Instagram post.

The partnership marks the continuation of a relationship with Nike, who Vanessa briefly parted ways with last April. At the time, ESPN reported that she was “frustrated” with the limited availability of Kobe’s products, the lack of kids’ sizes for his footwear, the difficult process fans endured when purchasing products, and the differences between their partnership and the “lifetime” structure offered to Michael Jordan and LeBron James, according the Revolt article.
