The line between the physical and digital universes continues to blur, even in the world of apparel and fashion. Companies like Nike and adidas have already created plenty of virtual fashion collections through NFTs and other platforms. One area of the digital world that has recently started to push into the physical is gaming. And with gaming increasingly becoming a popular pastime among young and old, partnerships are blooming that encourage this meshing of worlds.

Ralph Lauren is among those that have taken the dive into digital apparel. The company is once again dabbling in the metaverse by partnering with popular gaming platform Fortnite. The mega fashion brand previously launched metaverse apparel partnerships with Roblox and Zepeto.

According to several sources, as part of the deal, the company’s iconic horse logo has been redesigned with a cartoon llama. Ralph Lauren says that this is the first time the logo has been redesigned like this.

This new collection will debut with both apparel and accessories launching in the Fortnite Item Shop virtual storefront, according to a report from CSA. A physical apparel capsule will also be released based on the digital collection.

Despite the physical apparel dropping ahead of the virtual (slated for Nov. 2), the collection was actually developed as a digital-first capsule, another first for the fashion brand. The digital collection will debut two outfits, with alternate styles and additional in-game cosmetics. Those will be available for digital purchase in the Fortnite Item Shop beginning Nov. 5. The physical apparel capsule will be exclusively available on the Ralph Lauren e-commerce site.

But it doesn’t stop there.

An additional product drop is scheduled for global launch on Dec. 1 on the Ralph Lauren e-commerce site, Ralph Lauren and Polo-67 apps, and in select Ralph Lauren retail stores and specialty retailers including Bodega, Citadium, Highsnobiety, BSTN, LVL Gaming hub, Beams, and CMG Central World.

Ralph Lauren also has plans for several marketing events surrounding the collection release. The first will take place on Nov. 3. That day, the fashion brand plans to host an in-person kickoff event streamed exclusively on social gaming platform Twitch. Throughout three hours of live programming, viewers will be able to interact with top gamers, influencers, and celebrities.

Following that event, on Nov. 4, Ralph Lauren will cohost a global player tournament in Fortnite called “The Polo Stadium Cup.” Participants will be able to earn in-game rewards including first access to the digital apparel and accessories collections. The tournament will be held internationally where Fortnite is available.
