Champion Partners with Museum of Modern Art on Apparel Collab
Earlier this month, Champion announced that it launched a five-piece apparel collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, as shared by Fashion Dive. The collection includes five different styles: a hooded jacket, baseball T-shirt, cardigan, bomber jacket, and sweatshirt, all of which are available in the MoMA design store at the museum in New York or through its e-commerce website.
According to the article from Fashion Dive, this isn’t the first time the two brands have worked together on a project. “The MoMA Design Store previously worked with Champion in 2017 as part of the museum’s ‘Items: Is Fashion Modern?’ exhibition,” the article explains. That collection was quite a bit more extensive. Rather than five pieces dropped as a collaboration, it showed more than 100 items of clothing and accessories and was meant to be a collection display. The featured items were those that impacted the world in the 20th and 21st centuries.
The new collection designs are meant to pay homage to “Champion’s legacy of custom and collegiate apparel,” said Alex Glaser, senior product manager of MoMA retail, in an email to Fashion Dive. They are inspired by Champion’s New York archives as well as the brand’s custom facilities in Kansas City.
The news follows the recent sale of the Champion brand by HanesBrands to Authentic Brands Group.
