Connected Threads - Dov Charney Files for Personal Bankruptcy (And More From This Week)
Before we go into this week’s headlines, we have a new series alert. Apparelist teamed up with our sister publication, Promo Marketing, to sit down with John Morris of Club Colors. Through the bi-weekly video interviews, John’s engaging and infectious personality will drive home the importance of apparel decorators and promotional products distributors working together. Episode One is now live, so don’t miss out.
News from around the apparel industry is pouring in this week, with many headlines focused on the good that is happening. In a world where the supply chain remains uncertain and prices for everything from gas to milk are skyrocketing, there are so many people and companies out there doing good deeds.
For example, BELLA+CANVAS announced its plans to take over part of a shuttered textile plant in Alabama, which on the surface might not fit the traditional helping hands category. But that move will benefit the surrounding community due to the number of potential jobs it could create. Threadfast Apparel also has some good news of a different kind. As part of its reforestation plan, the company announced that it planted over 46,000 trees in 2021.
And in perfect timing with International Women’s Day, Alicia Keys and Athleta released an apparel capsule focused on inclusivity. The highly-decorated performer is also working with the women’s activewear retailer on additional projects geared toward “the uniqueness of women, body positivity, and creating a lifestyle that showcases our immeasurable power within.”
But as with most things, the good is sometimes accompanied by the not-so-good. Dov Charney has once again found himself in the hot seat. The former CEO and founder of American Apparel recently filed for bankruptcy in Los Angeles, along with his latest business venture.
It’s right back to the good with the latest interview spotlighting the Women in the Industry, where Chanel Stovall of Tee Guru USA reminds us all to keep climbing.
