Hanesbrands announced earlier this week that it suffered a ransomware attack on May 24. The company has already activated business continuity plans and an incident response to contain it.

The company said in a regulatory filing that it has informed law enforcement and is cooperating with the investigation. The apparel manufacturer has engaged legal counsel, a cybersecurity forensic form, and other professionals to assist as well. Hanesbrands spokesman Kirk Saville said the manufacturer had no comment beyond the SEC filing at this time, and there are many details that are still unclear.

At the time of writing, it’s not known what effect the ransomware attack had or continues to have on Hanesbrands. It is not clear whether the company has paid any ransom, or if the attack affects only internal operations or whether the information held hostage affects employees and customers.

This is an ongoing investigation; check back in for updates as more information is made clear.
