By now, it’s no secret that the fashion industry has a dark side to it. A few fast points about the industry from 100% traceable apparel company The Fision:

  • One-third of all plastics found in the ocean come from fashion.
  • Fashion is the second largest consumer of water in the world.
  • The fashion industry accounts for nearly 17% of worldwide employment, yet less than 2% of those employees make a liveable wage.
  • It takes 700 gallons of water to make one cotton T-shirt.

So, what’s the resolution? For The Fision, it’s creating 100% traceable, transparent, sustainable apparel. The company seeks to rethink the apparel industry and minimize its effects on the planet while also educating society, states a press release. “Through conscious awareness and continuous truth sourcing, The Fision aims to disrupt the apparel manufacturing industry using clothing as a vehicle for good, illustrating care for the planet and encouraging a more sustainable future.”

The Fision launches with a selection of cotton T-shirts made from 80% Good Earth Cotton, which the company touts as the Earth’s only climate-positive cotton. Behind Good Earth Cotton is regenerative farming, which “allows the soil to sequester more carbon than the entire cotton growth life cycle emits,” according to The Fision website. The fabric is comprised of recycled cotton to encourage circularity — a concept also known as closed-loop recycling that makes new from the old.

Using Technology for Traceable Apparel

Blockchain technology is a huge part of The Fision’s offering, allowing verification of a product as it moves through the supply chain and letting customers trace the garment through the entire value chain.

How it works:

  • Working with FibreTrace, Good Earth Cotton’s raw fiber gets implanted with an invisible identifier.
  • The identifier is scanned and verified at each step in the production process, creating a digital record of its journey.
  • Scanning the dynamic QR code on each garment allows consumers to follow the product’s journey from “dirt to shirt.”

The Fision plans to explore and experiment with green technologies and material sciences, further developing a fully sustainable and circular apparel model.

“The legacy fashion industry is not moving fast enough, or too often, legitimately. The technology available to us all is ripe for innovation, and we at The Fision intend to lead with speed and purpose in our product experimentation, learning, and evolving with new developments so that we remain at the forefront of sustainable apparel,” said Josh Gelder, CEO of The Fision, in a press release. “We are not only committed to communicating the truth about our products while exposing the environmental and societal impacts of the fashion industry but to holding ourselves accountable from the inside out. From our unique ‘Ownership by All’ company structure to our radically transparent production practices, we aim to inspire change.”

Pricing and Packaging

As most sustainable apparel does, the shirts sell at a high price — $99. They’re available in navy, black, and white. Additionally, a special edition “Wear Responsibly” rainbow graphic print is available at the same price point. All apparel is finished domestically in Los Angeles where it is knitted, finished, cut, and sewn. Size ranges include men’s S-2X and women’s S-XL. The company says more T-shirts, as well as hoodies and sweatshirts, will be available soon.

The Fision’s eco-conscious efforts don’t stop at the apparel. All packaging materials come from recycled 100% ocean-bound, traceable plastic pollution. Further, it donates 1% of each sale to the customer’s cause of choice.

For organizations interested in custom graphic options, the company offers exclusive programs and tailored content.
