Fire Breaks Out at Gildan Yarns Facility
Early Sunday morning, Feb. 18, firefighters responded to a fire at the Gildan Yarns facility in Salisbury, North Carolina. The plant, located on Chamandy Drive, is one of eight yarn-spinning locations in North Carolina.
According to multiple reports, the fire occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. At this time, the extent of the damage is still unknown; however, crews have reported that the fire was under control within approximately 45 minutes. On Feb. 20, a report was released that stated a machine caught fire at the facility. Gildan Yarns confirmed the fire was contained within the equipment, so the structure was not damaged. A spokesperson for the company said the machine is currently in repair and the plant remains fully operational.
