Direct-to-Film Resource Provides Continuing Education on the Technology
Despite being a young player in the apparel decorating community, massive strides have already been made to the direct-to-film (DTF) printing process. When it burst onto the apparel decorating scene just a few short years ago, there were understandably many challenges with the process. But there was also excitement around its capabilities and game-changing options it offers.
These days, the industry has seen improvements in multiple areas, including:
- Printers: Many reliable companies have released DTF printers that are specifically designed for this process. These companies are reputable, providing accessible customer service as well as technical support. “The biggest advancements have been in print speed, color vibrancy, and durability,” notes Mark Gardner, Hirsch Solutions.
- Ink: Primary improvements have been made to white ink, according to Timothy Mitchell, Mimaki USA: “New white inks have appeared that jet very well and require very little or no shaking, and with almost no sediment issues, making the printer significantly more reliable.”
- Film and Powder: New films are showing better ink receptivity. “New films and powders offer different properties that can benefit apparel decorators with varying levels of softness, stretch, and ink adhesion to offer a better hand feel and more luxurious final product,” says Lily Hunter, Epson.
