Several Companies Receive ECO PASSPORT Certification
The printing industry continues to push for more sustainable practices, with many implementing policies and strategies to lower their environmental footprint. Recently, several companies announced they’ve received the OEKO-TEX ECO PASSPORT certification for various products.
Inkcups’ SB Eco Series Pad Printing Ink
Inkcups announces that its SB Eco Series pad printing ink along with two other products have achieved OEKO-TEX ECO PASSPORT ZDHC Level 3 Certification. This achievement is a result of rigorous assessments across three key levels:
- Level 1: The products excel in analytical testing, supported screening, and undergo a comprehensive SDS review of relevant MRSL substance information.
- Level 2: Conformance is ensured by successfully passing an assessment of the associated management systems.
- Level 3: The highest certification level signifies that these products not only meet the criteria outlined in Level 1 and Level 2 but also successfully pass an onsite assessment to evaluate chemical hazard capabilities.
The entire collection of eco-friendly pad printing inks in the SB Eco Series, as well as products EB Solvent and 1000HNX Hardener, are among the certified Level 3 products. For a complete listing of the SB Eco Series, please visit the Inkcups website.
Roland DG Direct-to-Film Printer Ink and Powder
Roland DGA Corporation announces that the ink and powder for the Roland DG VersaSTUDIO BN-20D, a compact direct-to-film (DTF) printer, have acquired OEKO-TEX ECO PASSPORT certification.
OEKO-TEX consists of independent institutes in Europe and Japan, with offices around the globe, working to achieve the highest standards of safety and sustainable production worldwide.
The BN-20D is a desktop inkjet printer that produces DTF output, which can be transferred not only to cotton garments, but also polyester, cotton-polyester, denim, nylon, and rayon. It works in combination with other system components — specially formulated S-PG inks in CMYK and white, S-F164 direct transfer film, and S-POWDER — enabling users to create high-quality custom T-shirts and sportswear quickly and easily, states Roland DGA.
“We are constantly striving to develop safer and more environmentally friendly digital solutions, and the BN-20D direct-to-film system is just one example,” says Roland DGA’s Product Manager of Digital Print, Daniel Valade. “This innovative system makes enhancing garments with vibrant, detailed graphics quick and easy. Now, with the newly earned ECO PASSPORT certification, users can rest assured that the customized clothing they create is also safe for people of all ages to wear.”

Sun Chemical Range of Reactive and Sublimation Inks
Sun Chemical states that it has actively pursued certifications that offer clarity to customers regarding ink compliance and chemical management. Sun Chemical’s products have been awarded the ECO PASSPORT certification by OEKO-TEX, encompassing a comprehensive range of reactive and sublimation inks, including Xennia Amethyst Evo, ElvaJet Topaz, and ElvaJet Opal. These inks come with no restrictions and do not require re-testing for compliance with the OEKO-TEX Standard 100.
Sun Chemical’s inclusion in the ZDHC Chemicals to Zero Framework (CtZ) further underscores the company’s commitment to chemical management excellence, according to Sun Chemical. The CtZ Framework, a ZDHC initiative, seeks to promote responsible chemical management across the apparel, footwear, leather, and textile industry. Through thorough efforts and rigorous testing, Sun Chemical has achieved ZDHC Level 3 certifications for a range of products, thereby earning the designation of “Progressive” on the new CtZ framework.
Sun Chemical’s compliance extends to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), with all reactive dye and most acid dye inks earning GOTS certification. This certification ensures the organic status of finished goods printed with Xennia Amethyst Evo and Xennia Amethyst RC inks, providing added assurance to environmentally conscious customers.
